Colom: "Our target for 2021 is to battle for the top positions!"
Team HRC’s Team Manager, Jaume Colom, reflects on a 2020 campaign where Honda returned to the rostrum and looks ahead to 2021…
Honda made a return as a full-factory outfit for the 2020 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship season and showed promise throughout as the pace of the CBR1000RR-R was demonstrated during the season, including a podium finish for Alvaro Bautista at MotorLand Aragon for the Aragon Round. In an interview with WorldSBK.com, Jaume Colom (Team Manager – Team HRC) discusses the 2020 season and reveals ambitious targets for 2021.
Discussing Honda’s factory return to WorldSBK, Colom said: “The bike is completely new. Every day we have more information to maybe be able to correct things. The engine, for example, is very good. We need to improve some data and electrical systems that we have already. Also, in some circuits, we have some problems with the frame. We have different problems.”
One of the highlights for Honda was undoubtedly Bautista’s stunning podium at MotorLand Aragon in Race 2 for the Aragon Round. Colom reflected on this moment, saying: “The team are very happy with this podium because they know we are in a good position. At the moment, we stay at the limit and when we pass the limit we crash. When we are pushing a little bit more, one lap is possible, but all race is difficult.”
Colom also outlined his goals for the team in 2021 with the aim of reaching the top step of the podium: “Obviously, we want to win. We need to work very hard but our target for next season is to battle for the top positions and, if it is possible, to win.”
